Matrix Theatre Company is pleased to announce that it has been awarded $236,000 in support for its operations and programs by Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA), The Kresge Foundation, The Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Family Foundation, and The Skillman Foundation.

Matrix Theatre Company creates outstanding, affordable, and inclusive professional and educational theatre that addresses issues of community concern. The socially-engaged theatre recently announced its new Executive Director, celebrated its 25th Anniversary in June, and opens this week its 2016 - 2017 Mainstage Season.

"We are truly grateful for the recently awarded grants from funders who remain committed to our mission," said Executive Director, Mary Ann McCourt. "This multi-year funding will allow more time to produce transformative programming, which is what we are known for in Southwest Detroit and surrounding communities."

Matrix Theatre Company was awarded $81,000 from MCACA, $75,000 from The Kresge Foundation, and $30,000 from The Fred A. and Barbara M. Erb Foundation. These grants, which are all three year awards, will fund Matrix's operations and total $62,000 annually in combined support.

Matrix received a grant from The Skillman Foundation to support the Matrix School of Theatre's educational programs for youth 11 to 18 years of age. This grant will continue funding after-school and summer programs for youth participants to increase resiliency, literacy, and problem solving skills through the creation and performance of theatre.
